Civil engineers

Considered as one of the oldest engineering disciplines, Civil Engineering uses scientific and engineering principles to design and construct structures such as bridges, roads, canals, dams and buildings etc. It is pertinent to note that Civil engineering was developed as a separate field of study, only in the eighteenth century. A course in Civil engineering imparts not only a high standard of engineering knowledge but also supervisory and administrative skills. It offers a multitude of specialisations, some of which are structural, water resources, environmental, construction, transportation, geo-technical engineering etc.

It would not be wrong to call civil engineering as an evergreen profession as the demand for it is constant. This is because Civil engineers will always be needed to maintain and repair existing facilities and structures and to construct new ones. Also due to the rapid growth of infrastructure facilities in the country, excellent job opportunities in civil engineering are available, both in public and private sectors. However, the probability of finding jobs in private sector is more. There is also immense scope for civil engineers abroad.
